Indiana Society of Magicians was established in the 1930s with the help of Indianapolis magicians including J. Elder Blackledge (who was elected the first president) and George T. Purvis Jr.

The were charted as the the Society of American Magicians Ring No. 31 on April 6, 1940.[1]
