John B. (Old Doc) Young, a U.S. Naval Officer in World War II, banker, magical entertainer, Magic Camp Director, magical writer and member of the Magic Circle (MIMC Gold Star), performs chiefly as a medicine-man,street performer,trickster. Old Doc Young has also appeared in his magical shows as: Ebeneezer Young and His Dream of Gold; Raffles the Baffler; Indiana Young and The Temple of Kaboom; and as Hoom Bog Yung and His Clinking Rings.
Known to his friends as Jack, he grew up in a small town originally known as Horse's Neck (later changed to Verona), New Jersey near New York City.
In his spare time, he was a national director of the Boy Scouts of America and became passionate about magic.
Bill Larsen never turned down and published in Genii every magic write-up that Young sent in, including:
- Pen-Ultimate Key (a 1974 skeleton-in-the-cupboard variation of Roy Johnson's "Seven Keys to Baldpate" Genii 1974 March;
- Square Head Rabbit (a 1974 squared-circle approach to a rabbit from a top hat) Genii 1974 October
- Soup to Nuts (a 1975 W.C. Fields-pattered presentation of three walnut shells and a pea) Genii 1975 March
- A Card For Crandall (with Jack writing as "A Friend" offering a bonus card routine prepared for Genii readers who were willing to send a greeting to Senator Clarke Crandall, then in hospital.
- Charles Dickens - Master Magician on Dickens' 1849 magic program, put on for his family on holiday in the Isle of Wight) Genii 1977 December
- Midriff Magic or Costive Conjuring (an adult variation of Fraidy Cat Rabbit)
- Jack Youngs Rabbit out of the hat (a combination of two effects given by Jack to Tannen's and marketed by them in Genii in 1979)
- Fish Flounce In It (a 1982 reversion to Jack's W.C. Fields patter for the production of eight aces plus a glass of whisky).
He also had articles published in Tannen's Top Hat Topics, Tops, Invocation and to Magigram.
