Woofle Dust (or foo foo powder, Magic Dust and other variant spellings: whufle, wufle, wuffle, whuffle, wuffle, whoofle) is a, usually invisible, "magic powder" that the performer sprinkles over something make the magic work. Actually used as a pretext for to ditch or steal something.

The first uses of the word in print are:

  • 1926 the original Mail Order version of the Tarbell Course of magic. In lesson 2 within "MYSTERY OF THE BURNING CIGARETTE" routineas part of the patter, Tarbell writes Sometimes I weight it down with a little Magic "Woofle Dust."
  • Sphinx, September, 1929 page 240, Everett Murphy mention "woofle-dust".
  • Sphinx, May 1932, page 99, Roennau mention "foo foo powder or woofle dust"
